Leaving San Diego

Leaving San Diego

Today we’re driving from San Diego to Boulder. The various mapping services give the drive time on the order of seventeen and a half hours. Most of our things have been picked up by the movers and we’re only carrying the things we need, can’t replace, or is alive. The movers were supposed to have come yesterday so we could leave yesterday, but there was armageddon traffic on I-5 so they delayed coming today. The apartment is empty and we’ve turned in our keys.

Not really how it looks in the middle of July, although it did drizzle this morning

I’m sad to leave San Diego, it has been a very good place to live for seven years. I’m leaving behinds lots of friends and a place I’m used to living with weather I like. Boulder is an exciting new place with new friends to make. It has four seasons, which will be a new thing for both of us. I don’t know if we’ll ever live in San Diego again, but I do want to come back and see my old friends and go for a bike ride with them.

Goodbye!

  1. Safe travels Stephen and Melissa!

My moving day was yesterday and the movers showed up on time. Though all my big stuff is moved my house is not empty nor clean. Close, but I will spend the weekend with Brent getting it cleared. Still much to do to get it ready to rent, though that ought to be done next week, so I will post it Friday and see who shows up to view it over the weekend while we clean. I doubt I’ll have much trouble finding tenants, as Cal starts in less than a month.

Petaluma is not nearly so far from my home of 25 years, but the move does make me sad too. I designed and built the house, I raised both my boys in that home, and started my buisness — which has supported us just fine. Big transition all around. Rowan is off to college, Zander is still putzing around trying to figure out what to do, and almost all my friends are in Oakland and Berkeley. Still, Petaluma is a very nice place to move to! Brent is here, the weather is much better than Berkeley, the cycling kicks ass. We’ve already had several cycling weekends with my buddies. More to come. I know I’ll miss my Berkeley friends though, and expect I’ll go back several times a month to check in.

Safe driving! Can’t wait to see the posts of your trip to Boulder and your new haunts.

    ciao,
    k
