New Edition - Home Again

The #1 album this week is a return to recording as a group for New Edition. Apparently (and I didn't know any of this until I did some research), they had broken up in 1990 to pursue individual projects. I knew basically nothing about New Edition prior to now. For example, I didn't know that Bobby Brown was in the band. I previously thought of him only as a solo musician and Whitney Houston's husband. That's probably because the band's peak popularity was in the 1980's, before I was deep into popular music.

Home Again itself seems like a quality, competent, and perfectly contemporary 90's R&B album, not dissimilar to the music of the biggest R&B group of the decade, Boys II Men. Although that might be backwards; Boys II Men named themselves after a New Edition song. I don't recall hearing any of the songs when the album came out, but my memory is imperfect.

Perhaps if I was a bit older and experienced New Edition during their peak this comeback album would be more meaningful for me. As it is, I don't hate it, but it doesn't do much for me. If you're wanting some 90's R&B, it is a good choice.
